Happy Thanksgiving. November is time for full blown weed control with weed and feed applications. Attrazine based for St. Augustine and Three Way for Bahia (2-4-D). Be sure you use a weed and feed that is of good quality that is high in Potassium and Minor elements such as Mg. Everyone wants there grass to look good for the holidays and the guests from out of town so make sure you use a better fertilizer and you will save in the long run. The grass should be starting to slow down now and soon you will only need to mow every other week or less. Did you know too much mowing can damage your yard? Yes it’s true. If you use a commercial lawn mowing company or have a big mower yourself think about how heavy it is. If the grass is not growing you are just trampling it down and since it is not growing fast it will not recover fast.

Watering Please at this point turn off your irrigation system to water once a week, there is simply no need to water just because it is your day.  You should turn off your systems automatic timer and water manually only when needed. This will help you out so much in the Spring because you will have a stronger deeper root system which means a healthier lawn.  If you over water in the winter you will cause your root system to be shallow and or get a fungus. A Shallow root system will mean your lawn will be slower to green up in the Spring and will be the first to dry out in the Summer.  Remember Dry Lawns get chinch bugs and it is expensive to re sod.

Tips Iron for color and Potassium for root growth and faster Spring Green up. Less water means better Roots better roots means less problems less problems equal lees expense and happier people.

Get your shrubs blooming by adding a fertilizer with more Prosperous but low in Nitrogen.
